TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's basketball team is set to host a mid-week matchup with crosstown rival Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday.
Puget Sound's Last Games
The Loggers (11-6, 6-2 NWC) upset No. 21 Whitman, 68-60, Friday evening. They then traveled to Whitworth and earned an 87-69 victory. Samone Jackson scored a career-high 21 points in the win over the Missionaries, while Elizabeth Prewitt scored a career-high 19 points on Saturday. Emily Sheldon averaged 22.5 points in the two games.
Where they stand
The Loggers currently sit in a tie for second place in Northwest Conference standings. George Fox (8-0 NWC) sits ahead of Puget Sound, while the team is tied with Whitman at 6-2.
Liz's Student Section
The Student Section in Memorial Fieldhouse has been renamed to Liz's Student Section in honor of Liz Breysse '17, who tragically died earlier this month.
Staying Power
Emily Sheldon continues to lead the Northwest Conference in scoring with 20.5 points per game, which is also good for 10th in the country. She has been named the NWC student-athlete of the week three times this season. The senior has recorded four double-doubles. She also adds 6.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game, and has led the Loggers in scoring the entire season.
Efficiency is key
Alexis Noren leads the NWC with a 54.4 field goal percentage, and is one of four players in the Northwest Conference to shoot over 50 percent on the year. The junior is second on the Loggers in scoring (12.8 ppg), and leads the squad in rebounding (7.1 rpg), good for fourth in the conference.
Setting the bar high
Freshmen Samone Jackson and Elizabeth Prewitt set new career-high for points scored this past weekend. Jackson scored 21 points in the Loggers' victory over No. 21 Whitman. Prewitt recorded 19 points in the team's win over Whitworth.
Cream of the conference
The Loggers are ranked in the top three in multiple categories. They are the second-highest scoring team in the conference at 74.1 points per game, while the Loggers' 9.7 steals per game and 39.1 rebounds per game are both good for third in the NWC. Puget Sound is first in the conference in free throw percentage (73.8) and second in field goal percentage (43.1).
Scouting the Lutes (6-11, 2-6 NWC)
Pacific Lutheran most recently fell to Whitworth (66-39) and Whitman (76-53). The team is scoring 56.8 points per game with a field goal percentage of 34.9. Megan Abdo (11.2 ppg, 4.3 rpg) leads the squad in scoring, while Samantha Kelleigh (10.1 ppg, 2.3 rpg) also averages double figure points. Lacey Nicholson (7.0 ppg, 6.4 rpg) leads the team in rebounding. The Loggers defeated the Lutes 79-69 in overtime the first time the two teams met earlier this year (Dec. 1).
