Women's tennis tops Willamette, 7-2; Men lose at Bearcats

TACOMA, Washington – Over a month after losing a non-conference match at Willamette, the Puget Sound women's tennis team got redemption by topping the Bearcats, 7-2, in a Northwest Conference match in the Tennis Pavilion Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Logger men narrowly lost at Willamette, 5-4.

The Logger women won five singles matches. Lisa Owen dropped the first set at No. 1 singles, but she rallied for a victory (4-6, 6-1, 6-1). Nicole Bouche won at No. 2 singles (7-5, 2-6, 6-1), and Bridget Myers won at No. 3 singles (7-5, 3-6, 6-4). Barclay Fagg kept the momentum going at No. 4 singles (6-3, 6-4).

Claire Fitzgerald had her back against the wall and face match point, 5-2, but she made an improbable comeback to win No. 6 singles (6-1, 4-6, 7-5).

In doubles competition, Owen and Bouche won the in the No. 1 slot, 8-4, and Myers and Tressa Bild won at No. 2, 8-6.  

The Logger men won two out of three doubles matches. Joe McRoberts and Riley Inn won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, while Graham Byron and Ben Colson were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 9-8 (7-1).

Inn won his contest at No. 2 singles (6-3, 7-5), and Lowell Hutton topped his Willamette counterpart at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-3).

Both Logger teams compete against Pacific on Sunday, March 11.
