Big second half lifts Loggers over UW-Oshkosh

Box Score

PARKLAND, Washington – After trailing at halftime, the Puget Sound women's basketball team put together a huge second half to defeat Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 71-53, in the final day of the Pacific Northwest Holiday Tournament hosted by Pacific Lutheran Sunday afternoon.

The Loggers (6-3) went into halftime in a 27-25 deficit, as Puget Sound shot just 9-for-28 (32.1-percent) from the floor through the first 20 minutes.

One minute into the second half, Mara Henderson hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, 30-30. The shot sparked a 9-2 run for Puget Sound, and the Loggers did not trail for the rest of the game.

The Titans (6-4) got to within four points, 48-44, early in the fourth quarter. Puget Sound promptly called a timeout, and out of the huddle Katie Minnehan hit a layup that began a 19-2 Puget Sound run.

Henderson scored a season-high 15 points, and Minnehan flirted with a double-double by scoring 10 points to go with eight rebounds. Jamie Lange notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Gia Sorn scored 14 points in the winning effort.

Sorn and Cassidy Daugherty were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Puget Sound begins its Northwest Conference season at Whitman and at Whitworth, Jan. 3-4.
