Box Score SANTA CRUZ, California – The Puget Sound women's basketball team closed the first quarter with a 17-2 run en route to an 86-58 win over Howard Payne in Kaiser Permanente Arena Saturday evening.
Puget Sound (4-2) totaled 75 rebounds in the game, which is two boards shy of the program record set during the 1986-87 season against Sheldon Jackson.
Jamie Lange accounted of 17 of those rebounds, though she finished one point shy of a double-double. Lange has pulled down at least 10 rebounds in five of the Loggers' six games this season.
Samantha Swartout totaled 14 rebounds in just 13 minutes on the floor, while Katie Minneghan grabbed seven boards off the bench. Mara Henderson and RaeAnn Allen had six rebounds, each.
Freshman Grace Pytynia-Hillier scored a season-high 16 points while going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Cassidy Daugherty and Rebekah Dasalla finished with 13 points and 12 points, respectively.
Puget Sound had a commanding 24-9 lead after the first quarter, and it carried a 42-25 lead into halftime.
The Loggers return home Wednesday, Dec. 11, to host Evergreen State at 7 p.m.
