Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Second-half defensive pressure overwhelmed Lewis & Clark as the Puget Sound women's basketball team came away with a 65-54 win in Memorial Fieldhouse Friday night.
The teams were tied up at halftime, 21-21, but Puget Sound (12-11, 6-8 NWC) opened the second half with a new game plan.
Puget Sound's full-court defensive pressure forced the Pioneers (2-19, 1-12 NWC) into nine second-half turnovers. Lange scored 10 of the Loggers' first 11 points in the second half, giving the Loggers a 32-28 lead midway through the third quarter.
Although the Loggers' relentless defensive pressure continued in the fourth quarter, Lewis & Clark pulled to within a point, 42-41. That's when Samantha Swartout drilled a 3-pointer to cushion the lead, 45-41.
Puget Sound reached a double-digit lead, 55-43, when Lange converted on an and-one layup off a nice pass from Mara Henderson.
Lange got her 17th double-double of the season with 30 points and 13 boards. It was her second game this year with at least 30 points this season.
Henderson and Swartout both scored nine points.
The Loggers are back at home Friday, Feb. 21, to host Willamette at 6 p.m.
