This weekend marks the start of the second half of Puget Sound's season. The Loggers' campaign concludes at home against Whitworth, March 6.
The Loggers opened the season with a 28-20 home win over the Lutes (Feb. 6). Duncan Varela was named the Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week (offense) after he rumbled for 132 rushing yards and totaled three touchdowns. Jonah Mendelsohn was the NWC Special Teams Student-Athlete of the Week after going 4-for-4 on point-after attempts.
Jack Bonicatto totaled 108 receiving on six catches against PLU.
One week after the PLU win, the Loggers lost at Whitworth, 53-6 (Feb. 13). The Pirates were hungry in their first game of the year, aiming to avenge their loss to the Loggers in 2019 - it was Puget Sound's first win over Whitworth since 1995.
Against the Pirates two weeks ago, Ezekial Sayavong totaled three sacks. It was the most sacks by a Logger since Todd Blakely '19 had three against Lewis & Clark in 2018.
The Loggers' lone score was a 45-yard touchdown pass from Murdock Rutledge to Anthony Ball.
This Saturday marks the first time since 1965 that Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran will play each other twice in one season. It's also the first night game between the rivals since 1993.
