WALLA WALLA, Wash. - In the second game of the toughest road
trip in the Northwest Conference, the 12th-ranked Puget Sound
Loggers held off the Whitman Missionaries, 75-60, in a Northwest
Conference men's basketball game at the Sherwood Center in Walla
Walla, Wash.
The Loggers took the lead just 18 seconds into the game on a
three-pointer by Antwan Williams (Portland, Ore./Madison) and UPS
never looked back. The lead grew to 10 points with 8:23 left
in the first period before the Missionaries got back within
three. Puget Sound grew the lead again, taking an eight point
lead into the break, 32-24.
In the second half, the Loggers continued to set the pace,
pulling ahead by as many as 18 points on a jumper by Jason Foster
(Spanaway, Wash./Henry Foss) with 9:48 left to play. Except
for a brief period, the Loggers kept the lead into double-digits as
they improved to 6-0 in the Northwest Conference with a 75-60 win.
Puget Sound was led by 17 points from Williams, who also added
four assists and four steals. Austin Boyce (Kent,
Wash./Kentwood) added 14 points while Robert Krauel (Phoenix,
Ariz./North Canyon) added 13 points. Foster finished with 11
while Steffond Brown (Seattle, Wash./Lover Columbia CC) added 10
points off the bench.
Whitman was led by 14 points from Brandon Shaw and 13 each from
Chris Faidley and Jordan Wheeler. The Missionaries had a
tough time warming up from outside the arc, making just four of 16
attempts for 25%.
The Loggers will next be in action on Friday night when they
play host to Pacific. Tip-off with the Boxers is set for 8:00
p.m. at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
