TACOMA, Wash. - Returning to Memorial Fieldhouse for the first
time since students returned for the spring semester, the
11th-ranked Puget Sound Loggers blew past the Pacific Boxers,
93-59, in a Northwest Conference men's basketball game on Friday
evening at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
The game looked like it had the ability to be close early on but
a 16-0 run by the Loggers over less than three minutes quickly
stopped that. Puget Sound got the lead into double-digits on
a jumper by Jason Foster (Spanaway, Wash./Henry Foss) with
12:09 to go in the first period and the lead never dropped below
ten the rest of the game. Using a 10-0 run at the end of the
period, the Loggers took a 50-25 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, the lead stayed in the 20's for most of the
period until the Loggers used their full-court defense and
high-tempo offense to wear down the Boxers. The lead hit 30
for the first time on a three-pointer by Colin Koach (Portland,
Ore./Franklin) with 7:34 to go in the game. The UPS lead grew
to as big as 39 with 5:28 remaining as Puget Sound cruised to the
93-59 victory to stay perfect in conference play and extend their
win streak to nine games.
The Loggers were led by 16 points from senior forward Robert
Krauel (Phoenix, Ariz./North Canyon). Bryce Levin (Everett,
Wash.) came off the bench to add 14, including four three-pointers,
while Foster finished with 13 and five rebounds. Steffond
Brown (Seattle, Wash./Lower Columbia CC) added 11 to round out the
Loggers in double-digit scoring.
Pacific was led by 12 points from Micah Mooney. Marcus
Kienlen added 11 off the bench while Garold Howe, who came into the
game averaging 18.4 ppg, finished with 10 points on the night.
The Loggers will wrap up the first half of Northwest Conference
play on Saturday night when they play host to Willamette.
Tip-off with the Bearcats is set for 8:00 p.m. at Memorial
Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
