#17 Loggers Leap Past Lutes, 77-60

PARKLAND, Wash. -  Using their signature high-pressure defense and quick-tempo offense, the 17th-ranked Puget Sound Loggers pulled past the Pacific Lutheran Lutes, 77-60, in a Northwest Conference men's basketball game on Tuesday night at Olson Auditorium in Parkland, Wash.

The Loggers were hot from outside early one, sinking six of their first eight baskets from behind the three-point line but the Lutes erased an early 22-11 UPS lead to even things up as 28-28 before pulling ahead 41-37 heading into the break.  Jason Foster (Spanaway, Wash./Henry Foss) put up 18 points in the first half, including three from behind the arc, but PLU's Nick Stackhouse answered back, scoring 17 of seven-of-10 shooting.

In the second half, the Loggers used their high-pressure defense early to force a pair of turnovers and retake the lead 43-41 en route to a 12-0 run to start the half.  The lead hit double-digits at the 8:40 mark on a lay-up by Robert Krauel (Phoenix, Ariz./North Canyon) and the Loggers continued to pressure the overwhelmed Lutes.  The lead hit 20 with 3:39 remaining as Puget Sound used the strong second half to collect the 77-60 victory.

The Loggers were led by 23 points from Foster while Krauel finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.  Senior Antwan Williams (Portland, Ore./Madison) had an outstanding game as well, scoring 11 points, dishing out six assists, bringing down five boards and collecting five steals in the win.

The Lutes were led by 23 points from Stackhouse, who started in place of Josh Dressler.  Victor Bull finished with 14 points in the losing effort.  After scoring 41 in the first half, the Lutes managed just 19 points in the second half.

The Loggers return to the hardwood on Saturday night when they travel down to Oregon to take on George Fox.  Tip-off with the Bruins is set for 8:00 p.m. at Morse Athletic Center in Newberg, Ore.
