PASCO, Wash. - The Pacific Boxers lost home field advantage when
their four-game Northwest Conference series with the Puget Sound
Loggers had to be moved to Pasco, Wash. but the Boxers played like
they were at home, taking both ends of a doubleheader from the
Loggers, 8-1 and 4-0, at the Pasco Sports Complex in Pasco, Wash.
The Boxers took the lead in bottom of the first with a pair
of runs and didn't look back. Three more Pacific runs put the
Boxers up, 5-0, after two innings. Puget Sound put the
defensive clamp on from that point on, finally using their bats in
the top of the sixth to put a run on the board on a Megan Janes
(Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) single that scored Aryn Grause
(Corvallis, Ore./Crescent Valley). Unfortunately for UPS, the
Boxers weren't done quite yet, using a three-run home run by Brooke
Fogwell in the bottom of the sixth to take the 8-1 victory.
Auriel Sperberg (Spanaway, Wash./Graham-Kapowsin) took the loss,
allowing eight runs, five of them earned, on 10 hits in six innings
pitched. Miranda McNealy got the win for the Boxers, allowing
just one run on two hits with five strikeouts and five walks in
seven innings pitched.
In the second game, the Loggers played a strong defensive game
but the Boxers matched their effort. The two teams played the
first three innings scoreless before Pacific broke the tie in the
bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs. The Boxers
added two more runs in the sixth and the Loggers just could find a
way to get into scoring position as they fell 4-0 in the second
game.
Chelsey Chamberlain collecte the win for the Boxers, allowing
just two hits in seven scoreless innings pitched. Grause took
the loss for Puget Sound, allowing four runs, two earned, on seven
hits in six innings with three strikeouts and no walks.
The Loggers and Boxers will meet again on Sunday afternoon with
first pitch scheduled for Noon at the Pasco Sports Complex in
Pasco, Wash.
