FOREST GROVE, Ore. - Senior Katie Schlesinger (Lake Oswego,
Ore./Lakeridge) made the most of her final collegiate game in her
home state, scoring seven goals to lead the Puget Sound Loggers
past the Pacific Boxers, 18-11, in a NCAA Division III women's
lacrosse match on Friday night at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest
Grove, Ore.
The Boxers (6-5) scored first on a shot by Shanlyn Souza just
1:18 into the first half. Schlesinger evened things up for the
Loggers (8-2) just 37 seconds later. After Souza scored again,
sophomore Sofia Lama (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Torrey Pines) and
senior Elizabeth Butt (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) scored back-to-back
goals to give the Loggers the lead. The two squads traded goals
until Puget Sound went on a 4-0 run to end the first period with an
8-4 Logger lead.
In the second half, Schlesinger opened up the scored at the
26:17 mark on an unassisted score that gave UPS a 9-4 advantage.
Puget Sound continued to build the advantage, using five second
half goals from Schlesinger. Sophomore Ana Calciano (Farmington,
Conn./Miss Porter's School) made nine second half saves to help the
Loggers earn their eighth win of the season.
Puget Sound was led by the seven goals from Schlesinger. Lama
and Jessica Knight (Portland, Ore./Grant) each added three goals
while Butt finished with two tallies. Calciano finished with 16
saves and 11 goals allowed to collect the victory.
Pacific was led by four goals each from Monica Smith and Lilia
Lee. Souza finished with two goals while Abby Coleman scored once.
Valerie Nelson and Heidi Curry combined for 17 saves and 18 goals
allowed on 44 Logger shots.
Puget Sound will be back in action next Saturday when they play
host to Linfield in a match beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Peyton Field
at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.
