PORTLAND, Ore. - The shots were falling on both sides of the
court but for the Puget Sound Loggers, it wasn't enough as they
dropped a close game to the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 85-82, in a
Northwest Conference men's basketball contest on Saturday night in
Portland, Ore.
The Loggers got off to an early lead but the Pios quickly caught
up and the Loggers couldn't find the run they needed to retake the
lead. The Loggers also did a good job of not allowing the
Pioneers to build a big lead as they kept the game close, only
allowing Lewis & Clark to take a four-point halftime lead,
33-29.
In the second half, the Loggers used back-to-back three-pointers
from Bryce Levin (Everett, Wash.) and Nadav Heyman (Corvallis,
Ore.) that put the Loggers up by two, 41-39, with 15:43 left to
play. Puget Sound held onto the lead for the next few minutes
but the host Pios eventually took the advantage back. The
Loggers kept it close, keeping the L&C lead in single digits
for the remainder of the half, but the maroon-clad Loggers couldn't
get over the hill to collect to victory, falling 85-82.
Puget Sound was led by 15 points each from Heyman and Conner
Gehring (Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap). Levin and
sophomore Kaleb Shelton (Tacoma, Wash./Lincoln) both came off the
bench to add 13 points. The Logger reserves outscored the
Lewis & Clark bench, 44-17, on the game.
Lewis & Clark was led by 22 points from Kelly Edwards, who
connected on eight-of-nine attempts from the field. James
Hollins scored 15 points while PJ Taylore chipped in 14 points.
Josh Kollasch added 12 points while Kyle Meeuwsen chipped in
11 points in the win.
The Loggers will return to Tacoma on Friday night when they play
host to George Fox. Tip-off with the Bruins is set for 8:00
p.m. at Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma, Wash.
