TACOMA, Wash. - Knowing it would be the final game of the
season, the Puget Sound Loggers gave it all they had but the Lewis
& Clark Pioneers hit their shots to take a 76-73 win in a
Northwest Conference men's basketball game on Saturday night at
Memorial Fieldhouse in Tacoma.
Puget Sound took the early lead as both teams played a balanced
first half that saw 13 lead changes. After the first 20
minutes, the Loggers held a 32-29 lead going into the halftime
break. Senior Colin Koach (Portland, Ore./Franklin) led the
way with seven points and four rebounds as the Loggers held the
three-point lead.
In the second half, the Pios turned to the three-pointer and it
paid off as they hit six of 11 attempts from behind the arc to
build up a lead. The Loggers continued to play until the tank
hit empty as a three-point attempt by senior Bryce Levin (Everett,
Wash.) bounced out, allowing the Pioneers to leave Tacoma with the
76-73 victory.
The Loggers were led by 19 points from Koach, who also added
nine rebounds in his final collegiate game. Sophomore Nadav
Heyman (Corvallis, Ore.) finished with 11 points while Kaleb
Shelton (Tacoma, Wash./Lincoln) came off the bench to add 10 points
and 10 rebounds. The Loggers outrebounded the Pios, 44-35.
Lewis & Clark was led by 21 points from Tyler Tsukazaki.
James Hollins added 19 points while Kyle Meeuwsen chipped in
13 points. Josh Kollasch also added 12 points as the Pios got
all by two points from their starting five.
The Loggers finish the season with a record of 9-16 overall and
5-11 in NWC play.
