McMINNVILLE, Ore. - The Puget Sound Loggers scored the first
five goals of the game and the Linfield Wildcats couldn't answer
back as the Loggers earned the 19-11 win in a NCAA Division III
women's lacrosse match on Sunday afternoon in McMinnville, Ore.
Junior Sofia Lama (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Torrey Pines) gave the
Loggers the lead just 41 seconds into the match and the Loggers
added four more goals before Linfield was able to sneak one in.
After a brief 4-1 scoring run by the Wildcats, the Loggers
scored three more goals before the halftime whistle as they held a
9-4 lead midway through the match.
In the second half, Linfield managed to keep it close for the
first 15 minutes of the second half but the Loggers finished up the
match with their regional rivals on a 6-1 scoring run as they
collected their first win of 2010 by a final of 19-11.
The Loggers were led by six goals from Lama, who now has 10
goals on the season. Senior Katie Schlesinger (Lake Oswego,
Ore./Lakeridge) added five goals while Julia Schulman (Durham,
N.C./Durham Academy) scored the first three goals of her collegiate
career. Junior Ana Calciano (Farmington, Conn./Miss Porter's
School) got the win in net, making 10 saves.
Linfield was led by five goals from Mariah Jones. Monique
Schrieber and Anna Gorciak each added two in the loss. Heidi
Curry was solid in net despite allowing the 19 goals, making twelve
saves to take the loss.
The Loggers make their home debut next Sunday when they play
host to Birmingham Southern.
