TACOMA, Wash. – Playing host to Oregon rival Linfield in
their final game of the season, the Puget Sound Loggers demolished
the Wildcats, 22-12, in an NCAA Division III women's lacrosse match
on Saturday at Baker Stadium.
The Loggers took the initial lead at the 22:47 mark as freshman
Julia Schulman (Durham, N.C./Durham Academy) put the biscuit in the
basket to give the Loggers the 1-0 advantage. Linfield evened
it up with 20 minutes left in the first period and then just a 6-3
run to take the lead over the Loggers. Not wanting to head
into the break down, the Loggers put up nine straight goals to take
a 13-7 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Loggers steadily pulled away, going up
by ten with 14:23 left to play and then holding off Linfield the
rest of the way as they earned the 22-12 lead. The Loggers finish
the season at 11-2 while the Wildcats finished the season just 2-8.
The Loggers were led by seven goals from Schulman. Kristin
Morris (Tiburon, Calif./University) added five goals while Sofia
Lama (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Cathy Soukup (Seal
Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos) each scored three. Katie
Schlesinger (Lake Oswego, Ore./Lakeridge) scored twice and Katie
Pavlat (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) and Anna Gunderson (Bloomington,
Minn./John F. Kennedy) each added a goal in the win.
Linfield was led by six goals form Anna Gorciak. Mariah
Jones added three scores to go with an assist while Monique
Schrieber, Erika Helm-Buckman and Angela Shimek each scored once.
