PARKLAND, Wash. - A pair of hard-fought losses concluded the
2010 season for the Puget Sound Loggers as they dropped both ends
of a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon
in Parkland, Wash.
In the first game, the teams battled through the first three and
a half innings with little offense until PLU's Stacey Hagensen
homered to left field to give the Lutes a 1-0 lead. The
Loggers tied it up with an RBI single by Carolyn Moore (Seattle,
Wash./Holy Names) that scored Alex Usher (Carson, Wash./Stevenson)
from third and then Christina Demuelenaere (Lake Stevens,
Wash./Shoreline CC) doubled to left field to score Megan Janes
(Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) and Moore as the Loggers held a 3-1
lead.
The Lutes trailed the rest of the way but PLU got going in their
final at-bat as the home squad scored three runs on four hits to
collect the 4-3 walk-off win. Aryn Grause (Corvallis,
Ore./Crescent Valley) took the loss, allowing three runs on four
hits in one and one-third innings pitched. Ally VanSchoorl
collected the win for PLU, allowing three runs on eight hits in
seven innings pitched.
In the nightcap, the Lutes jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two
runs in the bottom of the second. One run in the third put
PLU up, 3-0, and then the black and gold pushed the lead to 5-0
with two more in the sixth.
The Loggers managed to get the final score of the season in the
top of the seventh as Moore doubled to center field to score Bijou
Felder (Berkeley, Calif./St. Mary's) but it was too little, too
late as the Lutes collected the 5-1 win.
Grause took the loss for the Loggers, allowing three runs on
seven hits in five innings pitched. Ramona Lorton collected
the win for PLU, allowing one runs on four hits with eight
strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
The Loggers conclude the season with a record of 13-27 overall
and 11-17 in NWC play, one conference win more than 2009.
