PORTLAND, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound softball team finished up the Northwest Cup with a pair of losses to British Columbia and Concordia. The Loggers (0-4) dropped a 7-4 decision to UBC (7-8) before losing 9-1 to Concordia (6-3)in five innings.

Game 1 vs. British Columbia

UBC jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first three innings and held on for a 7-4 win on Saturday morning. UBC put up three runs in the first and four more in the third en route to the victory.

UBC's Shimizu led off the game with a home run and they never looked back.

The Loggers started to roll late but couldn't erase the deficit as they put up three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh. Chrissy Atterson got the Loggers on the board with an RBI-single and Aryn Grause homered to right in the next at-bat to cut the lead to 7-3.

Joleen Monfiletto led off the seventh with a solo shot to cut the lead to 7-4 but UBC shut the door to secure the victory.

Game 2 vs. Concordia

The host team of the Northwest Cup scored in all five innings on the way to a 9-1 victory over the Loggers on Saturday.

Anthea Aasen provided the Loggers with their only run with a solo homer to center to lead off the second inning. The Loggers placed a runner in scoring position in three of the five innings, but couldn't scratch across another run.

Concordia spread out their scoring with "small ball" as it did not hit a homer in the game. Concordia scored one in the first and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead. After the Loggers got on the board in the bottom of the second, Concordia scored two more in the third and fourth before clinching the run-rule victory with another run in the fifth.

The Loggers return home next week for a 12-game homestand, starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday with Lewis & Clark.
