After scoring just one run through the first 13 innings on Saturday. The Loggers finally broke through in the seventh inning of the second game. Carolyn Moore led off the inning with a sharply hit grounder into left field. A couple batter later, Aryn Grause knocked a blooping single into center followed by another single into left from Chrissy Atterson to load the bases.
With one out and the score 3-1, Christina Demuelenaere poked a single up the middle to tie up the game at 3-3. Both Moore and Grause came around to score, leaving pinch runner Megan Janes on third as the winning run.
After a long battle at the plate, Aasen finally boosted the Loggers to their first win of the season when her ground ball to the right side squirted into right field and plated Janes. The Loggers mobbed Aasen in front of the dugout as Janes crossed the plate.
"We've been waiting for that one big play on defense and that one big hit on offense," commented head coach Jennifer Peterson. "The team has been doing a really good job of staying focused and staying the course. It paid off for us in that second game."
Auriel Sperberg earned the complete game win in the circle. She tallied nine strikeouts and allowed five hits.
The Bruins scored all of their runs in the fourth when they brought all nine batters to the plate. Kerrianne Davidson doubled in a run and Chavez came through with another RBI-single to push the Bruins ahead 3-1 in the top of the fourth.
Atterson had put the Loggers ahead 1-0 in the top of the third with a base hit down the left field line that brought in Joleen Monfiletto.
"The biggest thing is for our confidence. We have seen a lot of potential in this group," added Peterson. "They really got after it this week so today just solidifies what we are capable of."
The Loggers will look to ride the momentum of their first victory into a pair of doubleheaders this weekend when they host Pacific on Saturday and No. 1 Linfield on Sunday at noon.
