Box Score 2 THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Puget Sound softball team kicked off its spring break trip with a doubleheader loss at Cal Lutheran. The Regals (7-14) took the first game 9-1, followed by a 4-1 win in the nightcap.
The Loggers (2-12) were playing in just their second and third true road games.
Game 1 – L, 1-9 (5 inns.)
A big fifth inning led the host Regals to a 9-1 victory in the first game.
Anthea Aasen gave the Loggers an early 1-0 lead when she drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the first. Christina Demuelenaere scored from third after reaching first on a catcher's interference to leadoff the game.
The Loggers offense struggled after that as just one runner advanced past first base the rest of the game.
Sara Lichtsinn put the Regals on the board with a two-RBI single into left field and gave the Regals a 2-1 lead.
In the fifth, the Regals took advantage of three Logger errors in the inning to score seven runs to shorten the game via run-rule. Allyson Salas took the win in the circle for the Regals, tossing all five innings.
Game 2 – L, 1-4
Cal Lutheran jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, taking advantage of a pair of Logger errors. In the third, they added two more with a sacrifice fly from Lichtsinn on their way to a 4-2 win.
Auriel Sperberg had another solid outing in the circle despite taking the loss. She tossed all six innings and allowed nine hits. However, she allowed just one earned run while tallying another eight strikeouts.
The Loggers plated one run in the top of the seventh when Elayna Van Hess cashed in Jenica Holt with a sacrifice fly.
The Loggers continue their spring break trip with a doubleheader at Chapman tomorrow at 4 p.m.
