Game 1 – W, 12-3
The Loggers used a pair of five-run innings to earn a 12-3 run-rule victory over Chapman (7-14). The first offensive outburst came in the top of the first.
A pair of walks and a single from Christina Demuelenaere loaded the bases with one out in the first. Anthea Aasen continued to provide a spark at the plate with a two-RBI double to left center. Alex Usher duplicated the feat in the next at-bat to put the Loggers up 4-0. Megan Janes completed the outburst with an RBI-single that cashed in Usher.
Megan James plated two runs with a single into left field to close the gap to 5-2 for the Panthers. However, both Jennifer Davis and Kristen Oechsel settled down in the circle as both teams remained scoreless for the next three innings.
In the fifth, the Loggers broke through again with five more runs. Usher doubled again and scored on another double from Joleen Monfiletto. Carolyn Moore and Demuelenaere each drew bases loaded walks and Aryn Grause smashed a two-RBI single to put the Loggers up 10-2.
A RBI-double from Michelle Pitts extended the game into the sixth inning but Demuelenaere singled in two more runs to put the Loggers up 12-3. Demuelenaere finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored.
Davis earned her first collegiate win with five innings pitched and two strikeouts.
Game 2 – L, 1-9
In the nightcap, the roles reversed as the Panther bats came to life and the Loggers' bats cooled. Chapman scored four runs in the third and four more in the fifth en route to the run-rule victory.
The Loggers opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly from Usher in the third. The Panthers responded with four in the bottom half, taking advantage of a Logger error. Raquel Rinauro knocked a bases loaded RBI-single into right but ended up coming all the way around to score on a Logger error. All three Panther runners also scored on the play for a 4-1 lead.
Laura Alexander homered in the fourth and an array of Chapman singles pushed four more runs across in the fifth inning to give the Panthers a 9-1 victory.
Sperberg took the loss in the circle but struck out six batters in 4.2 innings. She allowed nine hits to push across nine runs although only four runs were earned. Katie Terry earned the win, allowing only three hits and an unearned run while matching Sperberg six Ks.
The Loggers conclude their spring break trip with a doubleheader at Occidental tomorrow.
