Box Score 2 SALEM, Ore. – The University of Puget Sound softball team earned a doubleheader split at Willamette on Saturday. The Loggers rebounded from a 15-2 loss with a hard-fought 6-3 win in the nightcap.
Game 1 – L, 2-15 (5 innings)
The Bearcats scored four in the first, 10 in the second and one in the fifth while tallying 13 hits. The Loggers got their two runs in the top of the fourth and had seven hits in the game, led by Megan Janes with two. Brianna Huber and Janes scored the runs while Carolyn Moore and Elayna Van Hess were credited with RBIs.
In the circle, Aryn Grause dropped to 2-1 on the year, allowing four runs on six hits in the first inning. Jennifer Davis pitched 1.2 innings in relief and Van Hess pitched the final 1.1 innings, striking out three.
Game 2 – W, 6-3
One day after hitting a walkoff homer, Grause came through in the clutch again with a two-run shot that gave the Loggers a 5-3 lead in the top of the sixth. The homer completed a Logger comeback and boosted the Loggers to a 6-3 win.
Grause had opened the scoring in the game with a two-out homer in the first inning. Susie Krewer put the Bearcats on top in the bottom half with a two-RBI single into right field.
Alex Usher drew the Loggers even again at 2-2 with a RBI-single into right field. However, Mica Romero scored an error in the bottom half to regain a 3-2 lead for the Bearcats.
In the fourth, the Loggers struck back when Grause singled up the middle to score Carolyn Moore from third. This time the bearcats did not have a response as Auriel Sperberg tossed a complete game in the circle for the win.
Sperberg allowed six hits and two earned runs while striking out five.
The Loggers and Bearcats meet again tomorrow for another doubleheader in Salem, Ore.
