TACOMA, Wash. – With the score tied early in the second half, the University of Puget Sound women's lacrosse team put together an impressive scoring display to pull away for a 23-17 victory over Linfield on Friday. Julia Schulman scored a season-high eight goals to lead the offensive outburst.
Down 11-10 with 25:10 left in the match, the Loggers (5-4) scored four consecutive goals to take a 14-11 and they never looked back. After falling behind thanks to two Wiladcat (1-9) goals to open the second half, the Loggers would outscore the Wildcats 13-6 to run away with the victory.
Schulman and Linfield's Mariah Jones put on a scoring clinic as each tallied eight scoring strikes in the match. Schulman scored six of her goals in the second half to lead the Loggers while Jones struck five times in the closing half.
Schulman's eight goals led the Loggers to a season-high for goals scored in a match. Anna Gunderson, Bradia Holmes and Kristine Morris each added four goals to push the Loggers away late.
After falling behind, the Loggers dominated the second half as they built as 21-14 lead with 4:33 remaining. Ana Calciano, who is among the nation's leaders in saves, stopped 12 shots on the night, tallying six saves in each half. Her counterpart, Haley Steele, made 15 saves on the night.
The Loggers will conclude their six-match homestand and play in their home finale on Sunday when they host Colorado College in Baker Stadium at 11:00 am.
