Loggers And Wildcats Hit Seven Homers In Wildcat Win

Box Score

TACOMA, Wash. – A flurry of home runs propelled visiting Linfield past the University of Puget Sound softball team 11-1 on Tuesday. The No. 1 Wildcats (34-2, 23-1 NWC) hit six home runs en route to the victory and also broke the NCAA Division III single season record for home runs.

With one out in the first inning, Jaydee Baxter and Emilee Lepp smashed solo homers on back-to-back pitches to give the Wildcats a 2-0. They collected three more runs in the second with a leadoff homer from Emily Keagbine, her first of two homers on the day and a two-RBI hit from Lepp.
Chrissy Atterson doubled to lead off the second for the Loggers (11-23, 9-15 NWC) but was retired in a double in the next at-bat.

Brianna Huber scratched the Loggers on the board when she smashed a solo shot for the Loggers over the left center field fence in the bottom of the third. That cut the lead to 6-1, but the Loggers would not manage another run.

The Wildcats used another pair of runs in the fourth and a pair of homers in the fifth to capture the run-rule victory. Jordan Mixsell hit the record-breaking homer to lead off the fifth inning, giving the Wildcats 79 home runs on the season. Now with 80 homers, the Wildcats broke their own record from 2010 of 78 homers.

The Loggers will travel to Pacific Lutheran for a doubleheader on Saturday before hosting the Lutes on Sunday for Senior Day at noon.
