Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound women's lacrosse team thwarted a second-half comeback attempt from Pacific to win 12-10 over the visiting Boxers (7-6). After the Boxers tied the game at 10-10, Rachael Silva and Julia Schulman scored back-to-back free position shots to put the game away for the Loggers (2-11).
Schulman scored a team-high four goals and Linnea Bostrom made 16 saves in goal to lead the Loggers to the win.
The first of Caroline Cook's three goals in the match gave the Loggers an early 2-1 lead and sparked a 7-1 run that gave the Loggers a commanding 8-2 lead. Cook, Shulman and Grace Reid each scored during the run. Two quick goals from Kasey Killingbeck and Brooke Painter toward the end of the first half brought the Boxers within four goals and made the score 8-4 at halftime.
In the second half, the Boxers went on a 6-2 run to equal the Loggers at 10-10 with 15:24 remaining. Carmen Taplin scored all five of her match-high five goals in the second half to fuel the Boxer run. Taplin scored four of those goals in a three and a half minute span that saw the Boxers go from down five goals to knotted up at 10-10.
Silva and Schulman then struck on free position shots about four minutes apart to regain the 12-10 lead. The Loggers held possession for the majority of the final 10 minutes to hold on for the win.
The Loggers will play their season finale on Sunday when they host Linfield in Baker Stadium at 1 p.m.
