Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. – The Puget Sound softball team split a doubleheader at Lewis & Clark on Tuesday with a 10-5 win in the first game and a 4-0 loss in the late game.
Game 1 – W, 10-5
The Loggers (3-24, 3-18 NWC) built an early 7-0 lead and didn't let go to hold on to the 10-5 win. Seven Logger starters had at least one hit and three Loggers had at least two RBI in the win.
Jenica Holt led off a four-run first with a single to start the game. She came around to score when the Pios misplayed a single in the outfield from Aryn Grause. Chrissy Atterson knocked in Grause and Marissa Jeffers cashed in two more Logger runs with a double to right center for a 4-0 Logger lead.
In the second, Atterson knocked another RBI-single and Joleen Monfiletto hit a two-run homer in the next at bat for a 7-0 Logger lead.
While the Loggers built a big 7-0 lead, Elayna Van Hess went to work in the circle. She allowed five runs on five hits and struck out five in the complete game win.
Moriah Lane's sacrifice fly in the third put the Pios first run on the board. In the fourth, they added four more runs. Lane knocked in two more with single down the right field line.
The Loggers added one run in each of the last three frames to put some insurance on the board and Van Hess held the Pios at bay to secure the win.
Game 2- L, 0-4
The Loggers couldn't find the offensive fire power from game one as they were held scoreless and to just four hits in the 4-0 loss.
A Logger error in the first led to two Pio runs on a Madison Hollenbeck single for a 2-0 Pio lead. Hollenbeck also tossed the shutout complete game win in the circle.
The Pios added two insurance runs in the fifth, another of which was unearned for Grause. Grause gave up all four runs although only one was earned as she took the loss in the circle.
The Loggers head to Pacific tomorrow for another NWC doubleheader.
