Box Score 2 FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The Puget Sound softball team fell 4-0 and 10-2 at Pacific on Saturday in a NWC doubleheader. The Loggers (3-26, 3-20 NWC) were unable to get going offensively as the Boxers (10-20, 8-14 NWC) came away with the season sweep.
Game 1 – L, 0-4
Amy Schmeckpepper had two of the Loggers three hits in the first game and Elayna Van Hess went the distance. Van Hess scattered nine hits over six innings and allowed four runs. She also fanned three batters.
The Boxers picked up two runs in the third on a single from Jordan Mittelsdorf. Becca Moen and Chelsey Chamberlain each picked RBI hits in the game as Pacific added one more in the fourth and another in the fifth. Chamberlain homered in the fifth.
Van Hess was able to hold the Boxers off the board the rest of the way and even came through with a hit in the second inning but the Loggers were unable to scratch out a run.
Game 2 – L, 2-10 (5 inns.)
Pacific scored four in the first and five in the fifth to key the run-rule victory in the late game.
The Loggers were able to put up two runs early to take the initial lead. Jenica Holt started off the game with a single and was able to score when the Boxers right fielder misplayed another single from Aryn Grause later in the inning. Chrissy Atterson singled to advance Grause to third and she then scored on a squeeze bunt from Schmeckpepper.
The lead didn't last long as the boxers hung up a four-spot in the bottom half of the inning. Doubles from Mittelsdorf and Nikki King accounted for all four runs.
That would be all the boxers needed as Chloe Hanson settled into the circle for Pacific and allowed just one Logger baserunner over the final four frames.
However, Pacific added one more run in the second and then scored five in the fifth to end the game early. The Boxer used three RBI hits to tally the five runs. The big blow came when Jenna Stevens hit a single into left field, which was misplayed and allowed all three runners to come around to score.
The Loggers return home for their home finale on Saturday when they host Pacific Lutheran at noon.
