Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. – The Puget Sound softball team had an offensive outburst in the second game of a doubleheader but fell 13-1 and 17-9 at Lewis & Clark. Chelsea Lindroth and Lisa Columbo each had four hits on the day.
Game 1 – L, 1-13
Lindroth and Columbo combined to go 5-for-5 in the game but accounted for all of the Loggers' hits. The Pioneers (7-3, 2-0 NWC) used seven runs in the fourth to earn the run-rule win in five innings.
The Pios took advantage of five Logger errors, scoring seven unearned runs. The Loggers (0-6, 0-2 NWC) got on the board first in the top half of the first. Columbo led off the game with a double and Lindroth followed it up with a triple to cash in the run.
The Pios responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Caitlin McCormick. They scored two more in the second to take a 6-1 lead.
In the fourth, the Loggers committed three errors and they Pios took advantage with seven runs on five hits to shorten the game and earn the victory.
Game 2 – L, 9-17
Lindroth and Brianna Huber each went deep for the Loggers but it wasn't quite enough in a slugfest nightcap. The Loggers hung up at least one run in each of the first four innings but the Pios always responded with multiple scores in every inning.
Huber's homer came in the top of the first for a quick 3-0 Logger lead. After the Pios responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half, Tahni Arndt scored on a double steal and Lindroth homered to run the Logger lead to 6-2.
However, the Pios pounded out six hits in the bottom of the second to score eight runs. No hit in the inning went for extra bases but the bases remained loaded for most of the inning as the Pios moved station to station.
Marissa Jeffers brought in two more runs in third to slash the deficit down to 10-8 but the Pios hung up five more runs in the third and two more in the fourth to come away with the win.
Jeffers and Columbo each had two hits in the game while Jeffers and Huber drove in six of the Loggers season-high nine runs.
The Loggers head out to Pacific tomorrow for a noon doubleheader.
