Loggers Score In Bunches But Fall Twice

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NEWBERG, Ore. – The Puget Sound softball team scored in spurts in Saturday but fell twice at George Fox, 8-2 and 4-3. Four different players had multiple hit games at the plate for the Loggers (0-10, 0-6 NWC).

Game 1 – L, 2-8

Jenica Holt and Shannon Reed each had two hits but the Loggers couldn't overcome an early deficit as they fell 8-2 to the Bruins (6-6, 3-3 NWC).

The Bruins started early with four runs in the first frame and added another run in the second before the Loggers could get on the board. The Loggers scored both of their runs in the third.

Taylor Jones led off the inning with a single, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. She came home on a Lisa Colombo groundout to score the Loggers' first run. Moments later, Tahni Arndt scored from third on a Bruin error to cut the deficit down to 5-2.

However, that would be all the Loggers would get at the plate while the Bruins added three late runs. Kat Hylton's three hits and three runs led the hosting Bruins while Courtney Howard drove in three runs.

Megan Campbell went six innings for the Loggers and struck out a pair of batter. Allyssa DenDekker took the win in the circle for the Bruins.

Game 2 – L, 3-4

The Loggers scored three runs in the second to take the initial lead but couldn't hold on as the Bruins came away with comeback victory. Brianna Huber and Taylor Jones combined to have four of the Loggers' six hits in the games.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Olivia Turner came through in a big spot with a single into center field that scored Jones and Huber for the initial Logger lead. Arndt and Turner pulled off a double steal just moments later to extend the Loggers lead to 3-0.

The Bruins responded in the bottom half of the inning but only managed to shrink the deficit. Rachel Fielder smacked a two-RBI double to cut the Loggers lead down to 3-2 before Shannon Reed could retire the Bruins.

Reed went 4.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits, and took the loss in the circle. Megan Campbell went the final 1.2 innings and faced the minimum five batters to keep the Loggers close late.

The Bruins tied up the game in the fourth when a run came home on a Kayla Anderson groundout. Fielder then came through again for the Bruins when her single cashed in the go-ahead run in the fifth.

The Loggers and Bruins will meet again tomorrow for another noon doubleheader.
