Box Score 2 TACOMA, Wash. – In its final non-conference matchup of the season, the Puget Sound softball team fell 8-0 and 11-1 to the Corban Warriors. Corban (25-5) is ranked 10th in the latest NAIA national coaches poll.
Game 1 – L, 0-8 (6 inns.)
A quick start but Corban on top early and the Loggers (0-23) were unable to get rolling offensively. The Warriors put up three runs in the first inning and never looked back in the 8-0 win.
The first three Warriors reached safely to load the bases to fuel the three-run effort in the first frame. They scored one more in the second before going down 1-2-3 in th third.
The Loggers threatened in the second when Marissa Jeffers walked to lead off and advanced all the way to third, but she was stranded there when the inning ended.
The Warriors put up one more in the fifth and two in the sixth on a Stephanie Nippert home run to gain the 8-0 advantage.
Chelsea Lindroth led off the sixth with a single for the Loggers and also advanced all the way to third, but was stranded there on an inning (and game) ending double play.
Game 2 – L, 1-11
The long ball was featured four times in the game with eight of the 12 runs in the game scored on a home run.
Marissa Jeffers hit a towering shot to left center in the fourth inning that just cleared the fence for a solo shot for the Loggers. The solo homer was her third round trip of the year.
The Warriors used three homers to power their 11-run effort. Shannon Reed was cruising in the circle through the first three innings. She had allowed just one hit and no Warriors had even advance to second.
Their bats came to life in the fourth with six runs crossing the plate Courtney Castronovo hit a three-run homer while Kyrianna Sorenson hit a two-run homer. Stephanie Nippert's two-run blast in the sixth highlighted a five-run inning that helped the Warriors close the book on the doubleheader.
Jeffers and Amy Schmeckpeper each had a pair of hits in the nightcap while Reed struck out six batters.
The Loggers head out on the road for their road games, starting with a noon doubleheader at Linfield on Friday.
