Box Score 2 MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Puget Sound softball team fell 7-0 and 9-0 at eighth-ranked Linfield on Friday in a Northwest Conference doubleheader.
Game 1 – L, 0-7
The Wildcats (19-5, 12-2 NWC) jumped on top early, taking advantage of a pair of Logger error in the first inning. Two errors contributed to three quick runs for the hosts.
After a scoreless second, the Wildcats put up one run in each of the final four frames to secure the win.
Karina Paavola pitched five innings of no-hit ball but the Marissa Jeffers broke up the no-hit bid off a Linfield reliever in the sixth with an infield single. Shannon Reed added a hit in the seventh for the Loggers but was retired in a double play.
Game 2 – L, 0-9 (5 inns.)
Linfield scored seven runs in the fourth to shorten the game to a five-inning run-rule game. Shelby Vandebergh was also rolling in the circle and held the Loggers without a hit through the five-inning effort.
Vandebergh was one walk shy of a perfect game as Brianna Huber drew a walk to lead off the second.
Linfield was up 2-0 after the third but drew three bases loaded walks and used two doubles to explode for seven runs in the fourth.
The Loggers will look to rebound against Willamette tomorrow at noon in another NWC twinbill.
