Box Score 2 SALEM, Ore. – Willamette swept a doubleheader from the Puget Sound softball team on Saturday, 12-4 and 8-0. Olivia Turner went 3-for-3 in the first game to lead the Loggers at the plate.
Game 1 – L, 4-12 (6 inns.)
Olivia Turner had three hits while Brianna Huber and Shannon Reed each contributed two more, but it wasn't enough to over come five errors in the game as the Bearcats captured the win in the opener.
Angela Witty led the Bearcats outburst at the plate with a 4-for-4 performance that also led to three RBIs.
The Bearcats got on top early with three runs in the first. The Loggers got one back in the second when Shannon Reed led off the inning with a solo homer.
Willamette would go on to respond and scored at least one run in every inning. Their biggest inning came in the sixth when they scored four runs to shorten the game with a run-rule win.
Turner had an RBI-single in the fourth for the Loggers and another run came around to score on a Bearcat miscue.
Lisa Colombo knocked in the Loggers final run in the fifth and brought the Loggers back within three runs of the Bearcats.
Game 2 – L, 0-8 (5 inns.)
The Loggers couldn't get rolling offensively in the second game as they stranded six runners through five innings. Five different Loggers recorded a hit in the game.
After going down in order in the first two frames, the Loggers had a runner standing in scoring position in the third, fourth and fifth. However, the Bearcats were able to escape the jams unscathed.
Ashley Pender had five RBIs in the game for Willamette. She knocked a two runs in with a triple in the third and hit a three-run homer in the fifth to help fuel the six-run inning.
The Loggers will travel across town to face Pacific Lutheran on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and will host the Lutes at the same time the next day.
