Box Score 2 TACOMA, Wash. – Seventh-ranked Linfield took both games of a doubleheader from the Puget Sound softball team on Saturday, 12-2 and 10-2. The Loggers (2-35, 2-24 NWC) scored two runs in the fourth inning of each game.
Game 1 – L, 2-12 (6 inns.)
A trio of home runs proved too much to overcome as Linfield powered its way to a 12-2 victory. Karleigh Prestianni hit a solo homer in the first to get the Wildcats started and a three-run homer in the sixth to help clinch the run-rule victory.
McKenna Spieth also hit a solo shot to lead off the second. Prestianni followed it up with an RBI-double and the Wildcats were up 5-0 after two frames.
Megan Campell held the Wildcats scoreless in the third and fourth when the Loggers cut into the lead. Taylor Jones led off the fourth with her second hit of the game and moved over to second when Lisa Colombo reached on an error.
Shannon Reed brought both runs home with a two-out double into the right center gap and the Loggers were down just 5-2.
The Wildcats pushed across a run in the fifth and six in the sixth with the help of a couple Logger errors for the final tally.
Both Jones and Reed were 2-for-3 for the Loggers to knock four of the Loggers' five hits in the game.
Game 2- L, 2-10 (6 inns.)
The story played out much the same way in the second as Linfield seemed to build a 5-0 lead in the blink of an eye. The Wildcats hit three more homers to fuel the run-rule win.
This time Ashley Garcia got things started for the Wildcats with a three-run homer in the first. Lisa Yamamoto hit a solo homer in the fourth and Prestianni went deep for the third time today with a leadoff homer in the sixth.
Lisa Colombo collected two of the Logger's five hits in the game and their only RBI with a 2-for-3 performance. Colombo's second single of the game scored Jones from second base. Colombo later scored when Linfield tried to turn a double play but a throw to first went wide, allowing Colombo to spring home.
The Loggers committed seven errors in the game that led to seven unearned runs for the Wildcats.
The Loggers celebrated the four seniors today but wrap up their season on Tuesday in a makeup doubleheader with Pacific.
