Smith and Krietzman score as Loggers fall

TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound lacrosse team lost, 15-2, to Southwestern (Tex.) to begin the 2016 season on Sunday afternoon.

Kerri Smith and Roxanne Krietzman each scored in the game for the Loggers (0-1).

The Pirates (3-0) came out firing, scoring their first goal less than a minute into the game. Southwestern was ahead 8-0 before the Loggers scored their first goal, with 11:10 left in the first half. The visitors led 10-1 at halftime.

The Logger defense tightened up in the second half, only allowing five goals. Goalkeeper Leah Stromberg (0-1) made six saves in her first game between the pipes.

Kerri Smith recovered seven groundballs, while Izzy Amaya recovered six. Hailey Shoemaker forced five turnovers.

Puget Sound will next host Piedmont on Monday, February 29. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
