3 Loggers notch 2 RBI, softball finishes 6-0 in Arizona

TUCSON, Arizona – The Loggers upped their win streak to six games, and finished their Spring Break trip undefeated when they won two games in Arizona on Friday. Puget Sound defeated Wis.-Eau Claire, 5-1, before taking down Carleton, 7-2, in the afternoon.   

Kristi Nagamine, Jessica Gott, and Jessica Shimoda each recorded 2 RBI on the day for the Loggers (7-11).

Puget Sound 5, Wis.-Eau Claire 1

The Loggers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Haley Gray RBI single. Puget Sound added two runs in the fifth inning. After Amber Popovich and Kayla Andrus reached base, Jessica Gott hit a single to right center field to plate two.  

Puget Sound extended its cushion to 5-0 in the top of the seventh inning. The two runs came from a 2 RBI triple by Jessica Shimoda.

The Blugold got one run back in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Logger defense held fast to earn the victory.

Erica Gott (3-3) earned the complete game victory. She allowed one run (zero earned), while giving up just six hits and striking out six.

Puget Sound 7, Carleton 2

The Loggers jumped on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring on an RBI single by Jessica Gott. Carleton responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game 1-1.

Puget Sound added three runs in the second inning with RBI from Jaci Young, Kristi Nagamine, and Amber Popovich. Carleton got on run back in the bottom of the second, but the Loggers would keep the Knights off the board the rest of the game.

The Loggers extended their cushion to 7-2 in the fourth inning. Nagamine and Erica Gott each recorded an RBI in the frame.

Kayla Andrus (2-1) started the game in the circle for the Loggers. She earned the win after throwing 4.0 innings. Jaci Young threw the final 3.0 innings.  

The Loggers will next play Lewis & Clark in a doubleheader on Sunday, March 20. The make-up games are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Logger Softball Field.
