TACOMA, Washington – Three Loggers recorded two hits as Puget Sound fell, 5-3, to Lewis & Clark on Sunday afternoon.

Despite playing at home, the Loggers were the visitors in the game, and jumped on the board in the top of the first inning. After Kristi Nagamine singled, and moved around to third on a Pioneer error, Jessica Gott hit a sacrifice fly to center field, giving Puget Sound a 1-0 lead.

Lewis & Clark took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first inning. The Loggers tied the game again in the second inning, on a Nagamine RBI double.

The Pioneers would take a 3-2 lead in the third inning with a sacrifice fly, and add one more run in the both the fifth and sixth innings to go up 5-2.

The Loggers rallied in the top of the seventh inning, closing the score to 5-3 on a RBI single by Amber Popovich. Puget Sound then loaded the bases with two outs, but a hard hit ball to right field by Kayla Andrus was caught and ended the threat to give the victory to the Pioneers.

Jaci Young (3-8) took the loss for the Loggers, throwing the first three innings. She gave up three runs, while striking out two. Erica Gott threw the final 3.0 innings, giving up two runs (one earned), while striking out three.

The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to persistent rain. It will be made up on a date to be determined.

The Loggers will next play George Fox in a pair of doubleheaders on March 25-26. The first game is scheduled to begin on Saturday at 12 p.m.
