Gray and Jessica Gott homer, Loggers drop two to Lutes

PARKLAND, Washington – Two Loggers homered, as the Puget Sound softball team fell in a doubleheader to Pacific Lutheran on Friday afternoon. The Loggers lost, 7-1, in the first game, before falling, 6-3, in game two.

Jessica Gott (3-for-6) led the way for the Loggers (12-25, 5-21 NWC) with three runs batted in on a three-run homer. Haley Gray (2-for-4) also hit a home run and added a double. Amber Popovich (1-for-6), Kristi Nagamine (1-for-4), Erica Gott (1-for-5), and Kaitlyn Webster (1-for-6) each recorded a hit on the day.

Pacific Lutheran 6, Puget Sound 1

The Lutes (19-13, 15-11) jumped ahead, 1-0, in the first inning. They added two runs in the second inning.

In the fourth inning, Pacific Lutheran recorded three runs, to lead 6-0. However, the Loggers responded in the top of the fifth inning, when Haley Gray hit her third home run of the year.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, PLU extended its lead back to six runs, 7-1. Puget Sound was unable to bring any runs across in the seventh, and ultimately fell.

Jaci Young (4-11) took the loss for the Loggers. She allowed six runs (five earned) in 3.2 innings, and struck out three. Kasey Stern threw the final 2.1 innings, allowing one run, while striking out one.         

Pacific Lutheran 6, Puget Sound 3

The Loggers took a first inning lead in the second game. Amber Popovich walked and Erica Gott singled. Jessica Gott came to the plate and blasted her fourth homer of the year to put the visitors up, 3-0.

Pacific Lutheran got one run back in the second inning, and closed the gap to 3-2 in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Lutes took the lead, scoring four runs. Trailing 6-3, the Loggers were unable to bring across any runs, and fell.

Erica Gott (6-9) took the loss in the circle for the Loggers. She allowed five runs in 5.0 innings, while striking out one. Kasey Stern threw the final 1.0 innings, allowing one run.

The Loggers will wrap up the season on Saturday, April 14. The team will host Pacific Lutheran in a doubleheader. The day will also serve as Senior Day for Puget Sound.
