Nagamine and Young record RBI on Senior Day

TACOMA, Washington – Kristi Nagamine and Jaci Young each had an RBI on their Senior Day, as the Puget Sound softball team split a doubleheader with Pacific Lutheran on Saturday afternoon. The Loggers fell, 12-2, in six innings in the first game, before winning the final game of the season, 3-2.

Nagamine and Young were honored for their contributions over the last four years after the games.

Jenna Llamas and Mckenna Johnson each recorded an RBI in addition to Nagamine and Young for the Loggers (13-26, 6-22 NWC). Amber Popovich, Jessica Gott, Jessica Shimoda, and Haley Gray each had hits on the day.

Pacific Lutheran 12, Puget Sound 2 (6 innings)

The Lutes (20-14, 16-12) jumped ahead, 1-0, in the first inning. They added three runs in the second inning.

In the bottom of the second, the Loggers got one run back, when Jenna Llamas hit an RBI groundout. In the third inning, Pacific Lutheran added two insurance runs.

Puget Sound scored its second run in the fourth inning, as Kristi Nagamine came around to score. However, the Lutes scored four runs in the sixth inning to go up 12-2. The Loggers were unable to bring anyone around in the bottom of the sixth, and ultimately fell.

Jaci Young (4-12) took the loss for the Loggers. She allowed six runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings. Kasey Stern threw the final 3.1 innings, giving up six runs (four earned), while striking out two.  

Puget Sound 3, Pacific Lutheran 2

The Lutes took a 2-0 lead on a Kathryn Hatlen home run in the top of the first inning. Neither team was able to push a run across until the fourth inning.

In the home half of the fourth, the Loggers scored four runs.  Jessica Gott led off the inning with a double. Haley Gray followed with a walk, and both runners advanced when Kaitlyn Webster grounded out. Jaci Young came up next, and singled up the middle, allowing Gott to score. Mckenna Johnson was up next and hit a groundout RBI to score Gray, before Kristi Nagamine hit an RBI single down the right field line to score Young.

The Logger defense continued to hold firm, including having a three-up, three-down inning in the top of the seventh to clinch the victory.

Erica Gott (7-9) earned the complete game victory. She allowed two runs, while striking out two.
