Loggers pick up first win of 2019 in historic fashion

Box Score

LOS ANGELES, California – The Puget Sound softball team's first win of 2019 was truly historic. The Loggers beat Occidental, 19-8, Sunday afternoon. It marks the program's most runs in a game since March 2000, when Puget Sound defeated Pomona-Pitzer, 24-2.

Abbi Wong went 5-for-6 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored. Hitting behind Wong in the batting order, Noelle Kerr went 4-for-5 with three runs. Marissa Oda posted three hits in four at-bats, including four RBI.

Kelsie Sullivan and Hana DeGuzman also collected multiple hits for the Loggers (1-4) in the winning effort.

The Loggers struck for three runs in the first inning, and they scored multiple in each inning except for the second and fifth. Puget Sound's eight-run seventh inning saw 13 Loggers come to the plate. Nine Loggers appeared at the plate before the Tigers could record the first out of the seventh inning. The huge rally included a three-run double by Oda.

The second game against the Tigers was rained out.

Puget Sound's next doubleheader is at University of Antelope Valley, Feb. 23.
