Box Score NEWBERG, Oregon – Jourdan Joseph went to the free-throw line 14 times and made all 14 attempts as the Puget Sound men's basketball team dominated the second half to beat George Fox, 85-76, Friday night.
Joseph's 14 trips to the foul line accounted for more than half of the Loggers' (8-8, 2-5 NWC) 27 free-throw attempts. He nearly tied Matt Glynn for the second-best best free-throw shooting in a game. Glynn went 16-for-16 at the line against Pacific Lutheran during the 2003-04 season. Nick Holden holds school record by going 21-for-21 from the free-throw line in a game at Linfield during the 2014-15 season. The previous Puget Sound record before Glynn was 14-for-14 in free-throws, which was held by David Linsdstrom since the 1968-69 season.
The Bruins (6-10, 2-5 NWC) held a 46-39 lead at halftime, but Puget Sound's defense set the tone for a comeback. The Loggers forced George Fox into 14 turnovers in the second half.
Two minutes into the second half Joseph hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 48-44. Following a George Fox turnover, Joseph got fouled and hit a pair of free-throws to make it a two-point game.
The Bruins took a 50-46 lead, but John Misel buried a 3-pointer to bring the Loggers to within one point and 16:16 on the clock. Puget Sound finally claimed the lead, 54-52, when Joseph drilled a trey five minutes into the second half.
Another Bruins turnover led to a Cal Hansen jumper and a 56-52 lead. The Loggers led for the rest of the game, but George Fox got to within one point several times. Another Hansen bucket kept the Bruins at bay, 71-68, with 5:51 left, and CJ Geathers cushioned the lead to 73-68 with a layup.
Joseph totaled a season-high 28 points, while Hansen finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Stellan Roberts came up with 16 points and eight rebounds for the Loggers.
Puget Sound takes on Willamette Saturday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m.
