Box Score 2 WHITTIER, California – The Puget Sound softball team collected seven hits in each game, but the Loggers lost twice at Whittier Saturday afternoon.
Puget Sound 4, Whittier 5
The Loggers (0-3) erased a 4-1 deficit to even the score in the sixth inning, but the Poets plated a late run to claim a 5-4 win.
Trailing by three runs entering the fifth inning, Hana DeGuzman led off by reaching base on an error, and Kelsie Sullivan followed with a single. Maddie Colombo drew a walk to load the bases for Kaitlyn Webster.
Webster delivered with an RBI single, and Marissa Oda followed with an RBI on a fielder's choice.
The Loggers tied up the score, 4-4, when Hailee Ueyama smacked an RBI double to plate Abbi Wong in the sixth inning. However, the Poets scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the stanza.
Puget Sound 3, Whittier 11 (5 inn.)
Kaitlyn Webster and Savanna Smith both went 2-for-2 at the plate, but the Loggers lost to the Poets in five innings, 11-3.
Puget Sound took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Hailee Ueyama hit a one-out single and promptly stole second base. She scored when Abby Brondos reached on an error, and Kaitlyn Webster followed with an RBI double.
The rally was capped off when Webster scored on a sac fly hit by Abbi Wong.
The Loggers' California trip concludes with a doubleheader at Occidental Sunday, Feb. 9, at 12 p.m.
