Box Score TACOMA, Washington – Kaitlyn Webster crushed her first home run of the season, but Willamette outlasted the Puget Sound softball team, 10-8, on Logger Field Saturday afternoon. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended after four innings due to darkness. The Loggers hold a 7-3 lead in that game.
Puget Sound (1-7, 0-1 NWC) opened the four-game series in 3-0 deficit after the top of the first inning of the first game, but the Loggers quickly answered right back. Hana DeGuzman led off the bottom of the first with a single, and Hailee Ueyama followed with a double. Webster cleared the bases and tied the score with a home run to left-center field.
Willamette rallied for four runs in the second inning, but Puget Sound kept chipping away.
Webster added an RBI single in the second frame, and Noelle Kerr hit two sac flies. An RBI groundout by Kelsie Sullivan brought the Loggers to within 9-8 in the fifth inning, but it stood as Puget Sound's last run.
DuGuzman, Webster, and Abby Brondos each collected two hits, while DeGuzman scored three times.
The second game is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 8. The final two games of the series will follow.
