Box Score 3 TACOMA, Washington – Noelle Kerr and Savanna Smith earned a complete-game victories, Hailee Ueyama had a walk-off hit, and the Loggers won a Northwest Conference series for the first time since March 2018 when Puget Sound claimed three games over Willamette Sunday.
Puget Sound 12, Willamette 10
The first game Sunday (second of the series), was a continuation from a Saturday contest that was suspended due to darkness. In the first inning, the Bearcats (4-9, 3-5 NWC) got on the board first with two runs, but Puget Sound's Marissa Oda quickly answered back with a two-run double that was smacked to left-center field.
The Loggers scored two more runs in the third inning thanks to RBI singles from Kaitlyn Webster and Oda. In the bottom of the fourth, Hailee Ueyama hit an RBI double, and Kelsie Sullivan followed with an RBI single to increase the lead to 7-3, and then the game was halted.
The game resumed Sunday, and the Bearcats scored seven unanswered runs between the fifth and sixth innings to take a 10-7 lead. The Loggers rallied for five runs in the home half of the sixth. The rally was highlighted by a three-run homer from Oda, and RBI hits by both Sullivan and Hana DeGuzman.
Ueyama, Oda, and Abbi Wong each collected three hits in the win, and Oda totaled six RBI.
Puget Sound 3, Willamette 2
Noelle Kerr earned the win by allowing only two runs while striking out four through all seven innings.
Leading off the bottom of the first, Hana DeGuzman drew a walk and then stole second. Hailee Ueyama singled to put runners on the corners. After Ueyama stole second, Kaitlyn Webster slammed two-run double to left-center, and Marissa Oda followed with an RBI to right field to give the Loggers a 3-1 lead.
The Bearcats cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the third, but that was their last run of the game.
Puget Sound 3, Willamette 2
With the scored tied in the bottom of the seventh inning, Hana DeGuzman ripped a triple to right-center field, and Hailee Ueyama delivered Puget Sound's third consecutive win with a walk-off single that was smacked back up the middle.
The Bearcats scored two runs in the first inning, but that stood as their only runs of the game.
The Loggers evened the score in the second inning after Marissa Oda reached base with a walk and Abbi Wong singled down the left-field line. Noelle Kerr hit an RBI single to left field, and Abby Brondos followed with a sac fly to bring in Wong.
Savanna Smith earned the win by allowing only two runs and striking out five through all seven innings.
DeGuzman went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Puget Sound continues conference play on the road for a four-game series at Linfield, March 14.
