FANS AND FAMILY ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ATTEND ATHLETIC EVENTS
TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's basketball team is looking to heat up this winter as the Loggers prepare for two games at Whitworth, Feb. 12-13.
The Loggers began the 2020-21 season against the Pirates in Memorial Fieldhouse, Jan. 22-23. Whitworth won both games.
The Loggers' fast-paced offense results in nearly 59 shot attempts per game, which ranks second in the Northwest Conference behind Whitworth (61). However, Puget Sound is shooting just 38.2-percent from the floor – which ranks last in the NWC. Despite the struggles shooting the ball, Puget Sound commits only 13.7 turnovers per game, which ranks second in the NWC, narrowly behind Whitworth's 13.6 mark.
Puget Sound is arguably more intense on the other side of the floor. The Logger defense leads the NWC in steals per game (9.2), and it commits the fewest fouls (16.3).
Entering this weekend, Cal Hansen ranks second in the NWC for rebounding (8.2) and third in (15.8).
In their most recent game (Feb. 6 vs. PLU), the Loggers' offense showed signs of turning the corner. Freshman Paul Johnson tallied 18 points after shooting 4-for-8 from 3-point range. Jourdan Joseph posted 14 points for his first game in double figures this season. And Tyrese Yussuf-Willis matched his season-high with 15 points.
Miguel Lopez is the Pirates' leading scorer with 14.0 points per game. Rowan Anderson averages 13.6 points, and Garrett Paxton 13.1.
