FANS AND FAMILY ARE NOT PERMITTED TO ATTEND ATHLETIC EVENTS
TACOMA, Washington – The final Northwest Conference home games of the year for the Puget Sound men's basketball team are this weekend, Feb. 19-20, when the Loggers host Whitman. Three weeks ago, the Loggers and Blues split two games in Walla Walla, Washington.
After a disappointing 97-59 loss at Whitman (Jan. 29), the Loggers immediately turned it around to beat the Blues, 61-59. It was the program's first win over Whitman in seven years.
In that notable victory, Cal Hansen notched his first double-double of the season by recording 22 points and 15 rebounds. Those numbers remain season-highs for Hansen. He was subsequently named the Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week.
Since that win, however, the Loggers have suffered four consecutive losses.
The emergence of freshman Paul Johnson has been a bright spot for Puget Sound. His 18 made 3-pointers ranks second in the Northwest Conference. Among all NWC players with at least 20 3-point attempts, Johnson has the best 3-point percentage (40.9-percent). He has scored at least 10 points in five games this season.
Mussie Teclemariam, a first-year Logger via transfer, recorded his first-career double-double with the Maroon & White. Last week against Whitworth he scored 14 points and pulled down 11 boards (Feb. 13). In that same game, freshman Will Mathews scored in double figures for the first time (14 points).
