Box Score 2 TACOMA, Washington – Hana DeGuzman and Kaitlyn Webster both went yard in a slugfest against No. 1 Linfield, but the Wildcats outlasted the Loggers, 17-14, in eight innings Saturday afternoon.
Friday, DeGuzman came through with the walk-off hit over the top-ranked Wildcats. Saturday, she led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run.
Linfield responded with four runs in the top of the second, but an RBI double by Jessica Moore in the home half of the stanza cut the Wildcats' lead to 4-2.
The Wildcats rallied for a six-run fourth inning to take an 11-5 lead. But the Loggers posted an even bigger rally in the fifth inning.
Webster led off by reaching base on an error, and she came in score on a double hit by Kelsie Sullivan. Abbi Wong walked, and Moore singled to load the bases. Mikayla Newman earned an RBI by drawing a free pass, and then Wong scored on a fielding error by the shortstop.
The bases remained loaded for Hailee Ueyama, who hit a one-run single. Noelle Kerr then drew a bases-loaded walk, and Savanna Smith hit a sac fly to score to DeGuzman.
With two runners, Webster stepped to the plate and belted a three-run shot over the left-field fence. In all, Puget Sound scored nine runs in the fifth inning to take a 14-11 lead.
However, Linfield scored a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to force extra innings. The Wildcats kept the bats going with a three-run eighth inning.
Ueyama and Moore both finished with three hits in the game.
The Loggers lost the second and of Sunday's doubleheader, 15-0.
Puget Sound travels to Newberg, Oregon next week, April 10-11, for four games at George Fox.
