Newman, Smith hit home runs at Pacific Lutheran

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PARKLAND, Washington – Mikayla Newman and Savanna Smith both hit home runs, but the Puget Sound softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Pacific Lutheran Saturday afternoon.

Puget Sound 2, Pacific Lutheran 3

The Loggers trailed 3-0 entering the fifth inning, but that's when the Loggers started to put pressure on the Lutes. Jessica Moore earned a one-out walk, and then Newman belted her fourth home run of the season to make it a one-run game.

It remained a one-run deficit in the seventh inning, when Kelsie Sullivan hit a one-out single and then moved into scoring position. But PLU retired the next two Loggers to win.

Puget Sound 1, Pacific Lutheran 8

The Loggers were in a 2-0 hole entering the fourth inning, and that's when Smith launched her seventh home run of the season. She is now tied for No. 5 all-time in Puget Sound's single-season home run total.

The Loggers host the Lutes for Puget Sound's Senior Day Sunday, May 2, starting at 11 a.m.
